Louisiana is known as the "Sportsman's
Paradise" and this is never more evident
than when you ride through the vast
network of bays and canals in the
Mississippi River Delta south of Venice,
Louisiana or the numerous oyster reefs
behind Buras. This massive estuary
receives tons of nutrients from the
Mississippi River each year. Combine that
with the miles and miles of protective marsh and you have the perfect environment for
billions of juvenile fish to flourish to maturity.
Capt. Owen Langridge has been fishing all of south Louisiana for 45 years and has
specialized in fishing the lower river delta for the past 25 years. His vast knowledge of
this area is yours for the taking when you book with Big "O" Charters.
Venice, Louisiana produces large
numbers of both reds and specks each
year. Bull reds up to 30 pounds and large
numbers of trout up to 8 pounds are not
uncommon. "I feel a new state record
speckled trout is swimming in the waters
of the Delta and someday a lucky angler
will land her."
Big "O" Charters caters to family outings
and enjoys seeing a child catch his first
BIG fish. "I love to see a daughter or son,
even a spouse, do battle with one of the
bull reds or trophy specks we have in
Venice. Having that happen on one of my
trips is like icing on the cake - it makes my
day!"

Capt. Owen fishes out of a new 24 foot
Skeeter bay boat with a 250 HP
Yamaha four-stroke outboard. He is a
member of the Skeeter "Pro-Team" and
gets a new boat every five to ten
months. Because of this you get to fish
in a new state-of-the-art rig every time
you book with Big "O". "Having the best
equipment is paramount in having a
safe and enjoyable trip. I use only the
best equipment and run only the finest
boats."

"I started fishing south Louisiana when I
was 5 years old. At that age my targets
were bream, bass, and catfish. As I grew
older, bass took center stage for me. Then
I was introduced to saltwater fishing and I
was HOOKED."
Big "O", as his friends call him, fished from
Grand Isle to Delacroix and all points in
between. "Twenty years ago I was taken
on a trip to Venice, Louisiana. Since then I
have not had a reason to fish anywhere
else. The lower Mississippi River Delta is
the greatest fishing estuary in the world."
Capt. Owen targets redfish and speckled
trout. "I catch other species," says the
captain, "such as flounder, but reds and
specks are my favorite and my specialty."
